The Chesterford Group operates a fast growing chain of multi-branded fish and chip takeaways, restaurants & virtual kitchen brands throughout the South, South East & South West of the UK. The company is based in Bishop’s Stortford and its primary role is to invest in opening new stores or purchasing existing businesses. The Chesterford Group currently operates over 40 branded fish and chip shops and a host of virtual kitchen brands, serving over 3 million meals a year. The Chesterford Group has been named as one of 1000 companies to inspire Gt Britain by the London Exchange for the last 2 years running and has one a host of industry awards including being named as the Best Chain of Fish and Chip shops in the UK on numerous occasions.
Hugh is founder of the Chesterford Group having started the business in 1971 with one store. He is the most successful retailer in the industry creating a multi million pound business through grit, determination and a passion for developing people into leaders.
He is passionate about creating a learning environment that first and foremost puts its people first.
Chief Executive Officer
James started his career in 2000 when he joined the Chesterford Group and has held a host of positions throughout the business. He was promoted to Managing Director in 2011 and then to Chief Executive Officer in April 2020.
James has a wealth of M&A experience and has led the companies rapid growth since 2011 and in 2016 became the majority shareholder of the business after a series of management buyouts. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, a business network for CEO’s & Entrepreneurs under the age of 49.
Paul has immense experience of working across the business and in 2011 was promoted to Operations Director. Paul has created and implemented the operational controls and systems the business uses today.
He has been instrumental in the companies successful growth since 2011 and has led the digitalization of the business through delivery, click and collect and its Virtual Kitchen operations.
In April 2020 Paul was promoted to Managing Director of the Group to lead and implement its next stage of growth.
John Lawes joined the Group as Finance Director in April 2020 from Ridgeons Group Ltd, a builders merchants with 42 depots across the UK. John brings a wealth of retail, operations, M&A and finance experience to the business. John spent a decade in practice as an A.C.C.A qualified accountant before turning his attention to industry. He is an entrepreneurial Finance Director with a track record of building and scaling businesses across different sectors.
